Windsor Half Marathon
Liz Kheti writes: Back in February 2010, a friend of mine tragically lost his wife by Carbon Monoxide poisoning at their home. Richard Haines is one of the nicest people you would ever be lucky enough to come across, always with a smile on his face and time to spare for everyone – an absolute sweetie. I therefore decided to run for Katie’s Memorial Trust. I’ve never run ANYTHING before in my life. It was perfect conditions for running a Half Marathon, cold and breezy, but when the hammering rain began at 12 miles I was so pleased it was nearly over! It was the biggest personal challenge I’d ever set myself and I can’t express how pleased I am that I completed the course and also beat my personal best at the same time, finishing in 2hrs and 37 mins! Thankyou to Twix for all her help with my training, to my parents for coming to cheer me on (seeing their proud, little windswept faces as I crossed the line really took me back to my youth!), a huge thanks to Claire for being our taxi service, and finally thank you to all of you who sponsored me by donating to the Katie Haines Memorial Trust, I know it’s appreciated by so many and the money’s going to be put to great use. The interesting thing is now going to be seeing how much my legs seize up over the next couple of days.
