Steve Smith runs for the Katie Haines Memorial Trust in the Virgin London Marathon

Richard Haines’s friend Steve Smith ran the Katie Haines Memorial Trust on 22 April 2012 in the Virgin London Marathon.  Steve said: “Sadly my good friend Richard Haines lost his wife Katie far too early to the dangers of Carbon Monoxide and although I never knew Katie personally, I have seen the effect her death had on a lot of my close friends and their families and if running 26 miles 385 yards encourages just one person to buy an alarm then it will be worth the pain and the cold mornings. You may know that I have run the marathon twice before but I’m not getting any younger and it will be so special to run it in an Olympic year.“ We’d like to thank Steve for his generous support in running this gruelling race – incidentally, Katie ran the London Marathon twice!  Steve ran in 3.57 mins – he had run 3.35 before but got cramp about 17-22 miles, but was determined to finish because he was running for Katie and Macmillan.  He raised a magnificent £2,500+ for KHMT, for which we are extremely grateful.
