Merton Junior Citizens Event

Merton Junior Citizens Event

In November 2019 we received an email from Keith Filby, a Road Safety & Smarter Travel Officer for Merton Council. He had watched the Pride of Britain Awards which had highlighted how a young girl who had attended a Safety Seymour school workshop on Carbon Monoxide poisoning, which had helped her to recognise the danger in her own home and ultimately save her family’s life. Mr Filby had seen the work we do as a Trust, and wondered if we would be interested in having a stand at Merton’s annual four-day Junior Citizens event in May 2020 aimed at between 1,200-1,500 year 6 children who attend Merton schools. We were delighted to accept and approached Phil Burrows of Cadent, who we’d met in 2019 and was responsible for Safety Seymour, to see if they would like to share the stand with us. Gordon and I met up with Phil and his colleague Hayley Tranter in March as they were excited to show us their new initiative The CO Crew aimed at KS2 in years 5 and 6, which they were excited about trialling at the Junior Citizens event. Sadly, because of the current circumstances, the event has been cancelled but we hope we will be able to take part in a future event.

However, if you have children in years 5 and 6 or are a teacher, please look at signing up for The CO Crew Virtual Visit. https://cadentgas.com/about-us/responsibility/working-with-schools/teaching-children-about-carbon-monoxide/the-co-crew

The session focuses on educating children in a fun and engaging way on the dangers of carbon monoxide, what the symptoms are and also how to stay carbon monoxide safe.
