Merton Junior Citizens Event
In November 2019 we received an email from Keith Filby, a Road Safety & Smarter Travel Officer for Merton Council. Keith had watched the Pride of Britain Awards on TV, which had highlighted how a young girl who’d attended a Safety Seymour school workshop on Carbon Monoxide poisoning had recognised the danger in her own home and ultimately saved her family’s life.
Mr Filby had seen the work we do as a Trust, and wondered if we would be interested in having a stand at Merton’s annual four-day Junior Citizens event in May 2020 aimed at between 1,200-1,500 year 6 children who attend Merton schools. We were delighted to accept and approached Phil Burrows of Cadent, who we’d met in 2019 and was responsible for Safety Seymour, to see if Cadent would like to share the stand with us. Gordon and I met up with Phil and his colleague Hayley Tranter in March as they were keen to show us their new initiative The CO Crew aimed at KS2 in years 5 and 6, which they were excited about trialling at the Junior Citizens event. Sadly, because of the current circumstances, the event has been cancelled but we hope we will be able to take part in a future event. READ MORE
