C0 Awareness Week 2010 – Farmers Weekly cake and pumpkin sale

Isabel Davies, an ex-colleague of Avril’s from the Farmers Weekly magazine team sold pumpkins from her parent’s farm to other members of the FW team and staff from Reed Business Information in preparation for Halloween. (Thanks to Isabel and her parents)

In another event, the wonderful Farmers Weekly team spent the weekend baking in order to hold a cake sale for Reed Business Information staff.  This event was to publicise the start of Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week.

Isabel says: We had amazing support for today’s cake sale – both in terms of the quantities of cakes baked (about 10m calories-worth combined) and the numbers who came along to buy. We’d already raised about £100 from pumpkin sales but we are now over the £300 mark and there is still some money to come in. We made sure we had some information from Katie’s website up and tried to ask everyone who came whether they had a detector. We also got The Business to use their poll to ask: Do you have a CO detector in your home? What has shocked us is that of the 511 who have answered so far, 65% have said ‘no’ so I am following that up with a letter urging everyone to get themselves down to B&Q this week. The good news is that we’ve already extracted promises from a number of the people we spoke to that they will. We will keep pushing.
