Blue Lamp Trust

In December 2019 we read about a crowdfunding campaign by the Blue Lamp Trust to raise £7,500 to purchase a year’s worth of Carbon Monoxide Monitors. They do a fantastic job and we felt we could help most by donating 250 CO alarms to them.

Here, Theresa Pratt, their General Manager, tells you a bit more about their work. Stu, Gordon wonders if there is a way to just have a link to the Blue Lamp Trust comments – rather than put the whole lot here? The Blue Lamp Trust is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and enhancing community safety throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. All our surplus go to support the work of the Bobby Scheme, a free service which provides practical home security and safety assistance to the elderly and vulnerable, helping them to feel safe in their homes.

The Bobby Scheme, supported by Hampshire Constabulary and Hampshire Fire and Rescue, is a practical service which aims to bring peace of mind to the vulnerable and elderly, providing reassurance or restoring a sense of security within their own home. Improving home security also decreases the risk of future crimes. The Scheme is open to anyone over 65, someone who has been victim of crime or who is vulnerable due to illness, circumstance or disability. A full crime prevention and fire safety survey is carried out by one of our trained, police-vetted fitters. They provide both general and specific crime and fire prevention advice to improve home safety. When appropriate our fitters will fit such items as locks, spy-holes, door chains, smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors etc.

Each year the Bobby Scheme fits about 600 carbon monoxide detectors to homes in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. In 2019 our sponsor for carbon monoxide detectors could no longer supply us, so we turned to crowd funding. As part of this we contacted the Katie Haines Trust and they very generously supplied us with 250 carbon monoxide detectors. This along with other donations and support has meant we can continue to supply carbon monoxide detectors to the most vulnerable. www.bluelamptrust.org.uk
